Tengri
Tengri
"When the Blue Heaven above and the Brown Earth below were created, between them a human being was created."
These words were carved onto an ancient rock monument in the Orkhon Valley: a record of a forgotten golden age, written in a long lost tongue. The sky above the Eurasian Steppe has had many different names by many different peoples, but one name has endured the millennia such that it is still used today. If ever you find yourself in this region of the world, you will often hear the people refer to the vast sky above as Tengri: the Blue Heaven, God of All.
Gorkhi-Terelj, Mongolia.
